Great book! Totally fascinating to see changes in main character. Would recommend for 4th grade and up or younger if talked about and read with a parent.
Love this book, I read it when i was younger and even now as an adult I still love it.
I bought this book for the reading corner in my science room. (I was a teacher) many students enjoyed it and told me they liked the unusual writing style. (The heroine starts off speaking with very simple thoughts/sentences and gradually changes into a more sophisticated voice as she becomes more assimilated into human society.) I would recommend it.
A wonderful book that isn't exactly typical, Music of the Dolphins explores what it is to be human- and what it is to be alive, two concepts which seem rather at odds with each other. Uniquely, the writing style of the book changes throughout, becoming more coherent as Mira learns English and more 'broken' as she becomes more distraught. A great book I'd highly recommend to anyone, especially someone who knows what it's like to be alone in a strange new place.
I had read the music of the dolphins when i was just a young teen and recently i began to search for this book so i could revist the lingering memories i could never seem to escape. Its about a girl who grew up living with dolphins. Dolphins took her into their family and watched out for her and its when she gets older she is spoted and taking back into society. And obviously she doesnt fit in. cant speak. dont know how to eat human food. and she doesnt understand the rules. The author writes from the little girls perspective and i really became attatched to the characture. The girl wants to go home, to the dolphins. and there is the conflict because she cant. her care takers legally cant just throw her back to the sea. Oh i was so excited that this book was just as engaging to me now as it was when i was younger. And the text changes with the progress of the girl. At first its really big text and in the middle it gets back to normal. i thought it was very creative.
